Position: Production Assistant at the Chesapeake Arts Center

Job Days: 9 month contract – 20 hrs. weekly

The Production Assistant provides comprehensive support for all events on CAC. Responsible for assisting and supporting all administrative activities of the rental, facilities and production departments.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supports Production Manager and production department during technical, dress rehearsals and previews as assigned.

• Provide supervision for load-ins and strikes as assigned

• Ability to work hands-on in an electrician capacity including comfort working at heights such as catwalks, ladders and lifts is a must.

• Position requires the following abilities: Hang, focus lighting instruments, program and operate the ETC EOS stage lighting consoles as needed.

• Working knowledge of Midas M32 and Behringer X32 sound boards.

• Basic knowledge of A/V systems

• Act as run crew for various technical aspect on the production during the run of the show.

• Perform general and preventative maintenance of technical equipment.

• Serve as Stage Manager for selected performance.

• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, mornings and holiday shifts

Education and/or Equivalent Experience Preferred:

• 3 to 5 years professional theatre experience in production.

Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge:

• Software: Qlab, Power Point

• Ability to work very long hours as workflow increases and deadlines approach.

• Calm / Professional demeanor, sense of humor encouraged

• Working knowledge of professional theatre systems and personnel

• Familiarity with existing and emerging technologies and practices relevant to theatre and the entertainment industry

• Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of job assignments

• Ability to work independently on multiple projects and be a self-starter

• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

• Very solid interpersonal, motivational and organizational skills with very strong attention to detail.

• Excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks successfully.

• Ability to collaborate and work well within a team environment

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Chesapeake Arts Center (CAC) seeks candidates for a MakerSpace Coordinator position. The Coordinator will oversee the day to day management of the new MakerSpace at CAC’s facility in Brooklyn Park, MD. The official opening of the MakerSpace is scheduled for late September 2017. The CAC MakerSpace will integrate STEM and the Arts by providing an environment that supports the development of skill sets that use both conventional and digital machinery, hand and power tools, and computer technology to facilitate both workforce development and artistic initiatives. The MakerSpace will serve a diverse population of users, from children to adults and beginners to experienced makers.

The MakerSpace Coordinator will manage all aspects of the MakerSpace, including materials, inventory, equipment maintenance, and supervising MakerSpace instructors. He or she will provide insight into technology education, and in conjunction with CAC’s Education Director plan for workshops and classes that align with industry standards.  He or she will provide training on a regular basis for MakerSpace users to become qualified to operate machinery and tools, and continue to evaluate and monitor users to ensure a safe workshop area. The Coordinator will be the primary staff member assigned to the MakerSpace and ultimately responsible for its use at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

-High School Diploma minimum education level

-Desire to seek and pass on knowledge to others

-Expert in handling, maintaining, and teaching the Industrial Arts including the use of Machine and Power Tools.

– Familiarity in the Digital Arts and maintaining computer based systems and labs

-Strong organizational, interpersonal and communications skills

-Applicants must have reliable transportation and pass a background check.        

Preferred:

-Previous teaching experience and familiarity with Technology Education

-Bachelor’s degree or higher education level

-Experience in maintaining PC’s and LANs (your home and PC LAN may be sufficient)

-Applicants with prior office experience, arts administration, or education (especially K-12) with a passion for the arts are preferred.  Interest in working in the non-profit sector is also strongly desirable.

 

COMPENSATION & HOURS:

Part-time

$20-$25 per hour commensurate with experience

Job Description

Position Summary:  To support each event at the Chesapeake Arts Center administratively and technically through the advance, execution and reconciling of a production.  To maintain, repair and recommend all technical equipment in the facility including the theatrical spaces, classrooms, dance studios and MakerSpace.   This position is a support staff position and will work in concert with the Director of Operation and Programming.  The Chesapeake Arts Center is both a presented and rental house while being a mission based organization;   The Chesapeake Arts Center uses the arts to excite, educate, engage, inspire and grow this community’s people, its artists and the region through performances, exhibitions, classes, and collaborations with artists, educators, business and community leaders and organizations.

Essential Tasks:  This is a 40 hour a week salaried staff position.  The schedule will be flexible and irregular and will include weekend and evening hours.  Flexible schedule is possible with supervisors’ approval to compensate for the odd and irregular hours.   Tasks to include the following and other duties as assigned.

Advance:  To plan, organize, schedule and facilitate the Center’s operations with the Director of Operations for all of the Centers’ events using the event contract; including crewing, procuring rental equipment/deliveries, load in/out, tracking inventory and maintaining Center policies.

Execute:  To run load in, show and load out while adhering to the Center’s policies.  Leading the crew to be professional at all times, instituting safe practices and whenever necessary, teaching and training all constituents.  To maintain the Centers gear, keep the facilities clean, neat and ready for any event.   It is paramount to provide excellent customer service and exceed the clients’ expectations while maintaining the integrity of the Center and its reputation.

Reconciliation:  To keep accurate paperwork; tracking the contract and any changes made to it, keeping records of the clients and (post mortem), event management reports, incident reports and any other documentation needed as required.

Requirements:  A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of event coordination or technical theatre experience is required.  Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in technical theatre protocol and safety standards are also a requirement.

Physical requirements:  While performing this job the employee will be required to walk, sit, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, reach, hear, see, talk and use arms and legs and lift 75lbs.

This position is a member of the production team.  Opportunities will include to research and make recommendations for system upgrades, design opportunities and any other opportunities the Center can afford monetarily or professionally.  This position also has the opportunity to teach a technical theatre class to middle school students enrolled in a Performing and Visual Arts magnet program.

This position will encounter decision making circumstance where the Production Manager must act with integrity, and in the best interest of the Center its reputation, the safety of staff, crew, patrons and artists.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Administrative Assistant provides administrative support and works closely with the Executive Director and Education Director in regards to general organizational tasks at Chesapeake Arts Center. This position is dual in assisting the daily functions of the both departments.
Executive Director tasks: Administrative support for Executive Director’s calendar, prepare for board meetings, thank you letters to donors, oversee membership, etc. and other special projects, and or job duties assigned by the Executive Director.
Education Director tasks: Candidate will manage the customized student registration database, working closely with the Education Director to assist with enrollment of classes, manage confidential student scholarship information, and track student tuition payments. Must have strong customer service skills to assist students and parents.

Reporting to: Executive Director and Education Director

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Oversee aspects of a customized database, which includes timely and accurate data entry, updating records, organizing/coding, retrieving reports from the system, while maintaining an overall understanding of database.
Maintain data correctness by routinely checking information for errors and duplicate files, while maintaining an organized system of information.
Handle all student membership, class registrations, and scholarship recipients.
Generate and send monthly renewal mailings and communications.
Track memberships relating to Education and donation statistics on a monthly and annual basis.
File hard copies and digital copies of registration records, financial records and other educational documents.
Assist the Executive Director with administrative tasks and special projects as needed.
Attend events as needed.
Assist with educational event planning, such as recitals, career day, communications, volunteer coordination.
Additional duties as assigned; this may include processing class evaluations, taking supply inventory, answering phones, assisting in selling show tickets, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Experience working in a nonprofit organization preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
Ability to create and adhere to schedules and deadlines required.
Strong interpersonal and time management skills; attention to detail is extremely important.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, supporting shared ideas and goals.
Experience and comfort working on computers required (experience with Windows, Microsoft Office, database software, social media and different internet browsers).
Willingness to work some nights and weekends for events as required.
Flexibility to support staff and projects as needed for a small to mid-sized organization.
An interest in Chesapeake Art Center’s mission.

HOURS, SALARY AND BENEFITS: The Administrative Assistant position is a 25 hour a week position with the potential to grow into a full time salaried position with healthcare benefits within the next 12 months. Hours are 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Monday-Friday, and every other Saturday from 9:30 to 12:30.
