EXHIBITION PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

DEADLINES

Chesapeake Arts Center will be presenting the “Things that make you HAPPY” exhibition at the Chase Brexton Health Care office located at 200 Hospital Dr #300, Glen Burnie, MD 21061 from December 20-March 2, 2018.Proposal is reviewed by the Chesapeake Arts Center’s Gallery Director and must be turned in by Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Artwork must be framed by the artist; the only sizes accepted will be 16×20 black wood or metal frame. Artists must also provide wire on the back of the frames and each artwork must have label on the back and wrapped in bubble wrap when dropped off at the center.

Artwork Accepted: Photographs, Drawings or Paintings

SIZE OF ARTWORK ALLOWED

16X20. MUST be framed in Black Wood OR Metal Frames only!  Artists frame own artwork with wire on the back.

How many can you submit? Artists can submit up to 5 pieces. Artwork will be selected by the Chesapeake Arts Center’s Gallery Director. Only 25 pieces will be selected for this exhibit.

EACH PROPOSAL MUST BE INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

The work should be no more than five years old, no nudity, violence or foul language allowed.

DIGITAL IMAGES: Send 5 images in jpeg format- no larger than 1024 pixels in any direction at 300 dpi for review. All image files are to be titled. Email to Nicole Caracia at Ncaracia@chesapeakearts.org by Saturday, December 9, 2017.

If artwork does not follow the guidelines or drop-off by 12/19, artwork will not be included in the exhibit.

About Chase Brexton: Founded in Baltimore’s Mt. Vernon neighborhood in 1978, Chase Brexton began as a volunteer-run gay men’s health clinic. Our work took on a new and difficult challenge in the early1980s when we became one of the first clinics on the front lines of the fight against HIV/AIDS. After seeing the needs of the family and loved ones of those we served, we expanded our services, adding Behavioral Health and Case Management services in 1991 and finally expanding to full Primary Care services in 1995.

Chase Brexton became a Federally Qualified Health Center in 1999, the same year we opened a second center, now located in Randallstown. Two years later, Chase Brexton earned accreditation in both Ambulatory and Behavioral Health from The Joint Commission. As the decade continued, we opened centers in Columbia and Easton, and, in 2013, moved our Mt. Vernon Center to its current home in the historic Monumental Life Building on Charles Street. In 2014, we opened our Glen Burnie Center, and in 2015, we achieved recognition as a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home.

Though health care continues to rapidly change, we will always honor our heritage, embrace diversity, and empower our patients, while innovating for the future.

Invitation for Applications: Teaching Artists

Chesapeake Arts Center invites dynamic, experienced and creative Teaching Artists to apply for a 2018 residency at our Brooklyn Park, MD location. CAC seeks Teaching Artists that work in (but not limited to) the following disciplines:

  • Visual Arts – Mural, Painting, Air-Dry Clay Techniques, Collage, etc.
  • Digital Media – Animation, Photography, Website Design, etc.
  • Theatre – Puppetry, Playwriting, Devising, etc.
  • Vocal Music – Chorus, Musical Theatre, etc.
  • Instrumental Music – Beginning Instruments, African Drumming, Rock band, etc.
  • Dance – Hip Hop, Jazz/ contemporary, International/Folk genres, etc.
  • Literary – Storytelling, Graphic Novels, Poetry, etc.

Four Teaching Artists will be selected for residency for January-December 2018. Through our residencies, CAC provides and promotes quality arts education programs that:

  • Foster creativity and imagination
  • Expand verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Enhance capacities for critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Fortify social-emotional skills

 

Teaching Artist Responsibilities Include:

  • Designing and executing an age-appropriate, project-based arts curriculum. Programs will be scheduled during after-school and evening hours.
  • Preparing for and producing culminating presentations at assigned site(s).
  • Collaborating effectively with coworkers, and communicating regularly with supervisory staff.
  • Submitting complete lessons plans, timesheets, reports and other vital administrative documentation in a timely manner.

 

Criteria

CAC selects Teaching Artists who embody the following qualities:

  • Artistic Excellence, including quality and scope of professional artistic work, and depth of knowledge within an artistic discipline.
  • Engaging Teaching, especially incorporating the creative process, reaching students across diverse developmental levels, yielding quality student work, strong understanding of arts learning standards, and substantial experience in public school classrooms or working with urban youth, including strong classroom management skills.
  • Professionalism, including abilities to plan with others, to articulate goals and objectives, and to adapt to varying student populations and school environments.

Compensation

The CAC Resident Teaching Artist will be paid a monthly stipend in exchange for teaching up to four classes per week, on site at CAC or off-site at a local school. Additional benefits include personal studio and storage space at CAC and a CAC-sponsored performance or exhibit to be included in the 2018-2019 CAC season program.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Administrative Assistant provides administrative support and works closely with the Executive Director, Education Director and Marketing/Program Director in regards to general organizational tasks at Chesapeake Arts Center. This position assist the daily functions of each departments.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee aspects of a customized database, which includes timely and accurate data entry, updating records, organizing/coding, retrieving reports from the system, while maintaining an overall understanding of database.
  • Maintain data correctness by routinely checking information for errors and duplicate files, while maintaining an organized system of information.
  • Handle all student membership, class registrations, and scholarship recipients.
  • Generate and send monthly renewal mailings and communications.
  • Track memberships relating to Education and donation statistics on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Manage confidential student scholarship information, and track student tuition payments
  • File hard copies and digital copies of registration records, financial records and other educational documents.
  • Assist the Executive Director with administrative tasks and special projects as needed.
  • Attend events as needed.
  • Assist with educational event planning, such as recitals, career day, communications, volunteer coordination.
  • Additional duties as assigned; this may include processing class evaluations, taking supply inventory, answering phones, assisting in selling show tickets, etc.
  • Assist the Marketing Director with Eblast
  • Create Press Releases about upcoming events/ classes
  • Assisting Marketing Director with day to day marketing tasks and coordinating marketing projects and activities as requested.
  • Supporting the in-house marketing and design team by coordinating and collating content
  • Support the Marketing Director with Hanging Artwork in Galleries, creating promotional material for the gallery events and corresponding with the artists
  • Help create content for social media
  • Answer, screen and transfer inbound phone calls
  • Receive and direct visitors and clients

 

QUALIFICATIONS, ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to create and adhere to schedules and deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills; attention to detail is extremely important.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, supporting shared ideas and goals.
  • Experience and comfort working on computers required (experience with Windows, Microsoft Office, database software, social media and different internet browsers).
  • Willingness to work some nights and weekends for events as required.
  • Flexibility to support staff and projects as needed for a small to mid-sized organization.
  • An interest in Chesapeake Art Center’s mission
  • Experience working in a gallery preferred
  • Confident and outgoing personality.
  • Must have strong customer service skills to assist students and parents.

HOURS AND SALARY: The Administrative Assistant position is a 20-25 hour a week. Hours are 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Monday-Friday, with a potential to work on a Saturday.

On Saturday, August 26, 2017, artist and musicians will join forces at the “Arts in the Park Festival” at the Chesapeake Arts Center located at 194 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park, Maryland 21225. Local artists will exhibit and offer their work for sale, while a festival of live music is presented from 11AM-3PM. The Chesapeake Arts Center is organizing the FREE event, under the leadership of the Executive Director Belinda Fraley Huesman and sponsors Whiting-Turner and Arundel Federal Bank.

The free outdoor festival will include live music, Corn Hole, Moon Bounce, local artist displaying and selling their art , Batman of Baltimore, dance performances , Food Trucks and entertainment for all ages!

The music component of the festival will combine the talents of local professional musicians, singer-songwriter Colin Rowe, and indie rock bands RÊVE and Leo & Cygnus.

The Arts in the Park Festival is a great opportunity to see work of local artists and to enjoy some good music. For the music part of the festival, feel free to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
