Volunteer Photographers Needed
Capture the moment at the Chesapeake Arts Center
Volunteer photographers donate their time and talent to capture images from the diverse events held at the Chesapeake Arts Center. Photographers need to think strategically and creatively to capture images of performers, theater patrons, students and the building itself. Images may be used on the Chesapeake Arts Center’s website, in printed materials, or promotional material.
Skills & Qualifications
-Own digital camera and equipment and have working knowledge of camera and lighting
-Able to produce professional-looking photos with high resolution (300dpi) in JPEG format
-Have the skills and equipment to work in low-light conditions, avoiding the use of Flash whenever possible when photographing artist on stage
-Able to work in a sometimes crowded space and take photos of performers on stage without interfering with the experience of the CAC patron
-Able to select the best photos from your collection, edit as needed, and submit 10-20 photos to the CAC Marketing Director within four days of the event (or as arranged with the CAC staff)
-Have strong people skills and calm, courteous, and professional demeanor
-Able to commit to photograph events in advance and follow through on those commitments
Volunteer photographers should plan to document 10-12 events per year. In 2016/2017, we seek volunteers who can commit to one event per month for the rest of the year. You will be contacted with a list of upcoming events and will be asked to choose those that match your schedule. You would generally not need to stay at an event for more than an hour, although you would be welcome to stay for the entire performance. Although you can volunteer for events in which you have a personal interest, you will be asked to commit to all types of events.
Use of Photos
As a volunteer working on behalf the Chesapeake Arts Center, the photos you take become property of the CAC for unrestricted use. Volunteers are not able to use photos taken at the theater for commercial use. Photo credits will be included on photos used by the CAC. The photographer may use the images on their personal or business website and in their personal portfolios to promote their own work, skills and experience.
-Photography credited in CAC communications and publications if photos are used
-Build or expand a portfolio of professional work
-Establish a record of volunteer service for related work and education purposes
-One Gallery Exhibit in the Hal Gomer Gallery at the Chesapeake Arts Center
-Access to performances at the Chesapeake Arts Center
-One Free Individual CAC Membership for a year
