Learn the basics of wheel-thrown pottery in a studio setting. Use stoneware clay and electric
wheels to practice centering and forming basic shapes such as bowls, cylinders and plates. Learn the properties of clay, terminology and decorative glazing techniques.

Intermediate Pottery Wheel

Ages 16 – Adult

Create larger, more involved forms including shaping lids for jars and containers, spouts for pitchers, as well as pulling and attaching handles. Learn decorative techniques, how to alter forms, slip applications, washes and wax resist.

Woodworking
Ages 14 – Adult

This course is a beginners to intermediate class in woodworking, with an emphasis on joinery and furniture building. The course will also include demonstrations on the safe and proper use of tools and materials. Students will be able to explore topics they are personally interested in learning.

Colored Porcelain
Ages 15 – Adult

Learn the power of mason stains and porcelain! Students will learn how to mix colored clays and slips that can be applied through handbuilding or throwing skills. We will use exciting techniques such as neriage, nerikomi, millefiori, mishima, and more. Create elaborate dishes, delicate boxes, beautiful jewelry, and whatever else you can imagine!

Basic Photography
Ages 16 – Adult

Students will discuss, explore, and apply the six essential elements needed for making photographs: light, optics, subject, aperture, time, and medium. These elements will be used in the creation of photographic compositions reflecting the exploration of framing, point of view, line, shape, space, color, and texture.

Alternative Pottery Techniques

Embrace the handmade! This class focuses on widening the ceramic artist’s “arsenal” of techniques in the studio to loosen up creativity and strengthen the craft muscle. Topics include surface decoration as well as examining formal elements in pottery. Basic throwing experience required- great for students who want to go beyond the wheel.

Yoga for Beginners

West African Dance & Drum

Students will learn the history and identity of the dances through dance, music and song. Accompanied by live drumming, students will feel empowered and inspired to learn more about how these dances and chants relate to the Culture of West African Dance.
